During pregnancy

Pregnancy is such an exciting time. But while you're busy preparing for your new arrival, don't forget to treat yourself with a bit of extra love and care too.

It's not always easy to stay comfortable when you have a growing bump. Skin tends to become more sensitive, not only because of hormones but because it thins and stretches as your baby grows.

Happily, there are ways to alleviate any discomfort. And who better to advise you than mums who have been through it themselves? Read on for two of our mums' top tips.

Comfortable clothing during pregnancy

Nikki Reeves, mum of two from Derbyshire suggests looking for one or two really lovely items of maternity wear. "The priority should be comfort, but you can get some really comfortable maternity clothes that still look good."

Soft natural fibres like cotton are gentle on sensitive skin, and a few favourite pieces should last your whole pregnancy. Don't be shy about borrowing maternity clothes from friends and family to mix and match with your new items.

Now that you're pregnant you might not feel like going out so much. Lisa Blackburn, mum to Lydia and Georgia, says: "I didn't realise that I would feel so tired when I was pregnant. I didn't really feel like going out - I just loved coming home and snuggling up in my pyjamas".

There's nothing wrong with putting on your most comfortable clothes and settling down with your partner on the sofa. Or, if you feel like you're missing out on socialising, why not invite your friends round for a girls' night in?

Special pillows for extra comfort

You may find you need more sleep when you're pregnant. But as your baby grows, it can become more difficult to get comfy. Lisa found a special V shaped pillow helped her sleep when she was pregnant - plus, she says, "It was great for breast feeding too."

Both Nikki and Lisa agree that the best thing you can do to stay comfortable when you're pregnant is to get plenty of rest. So put household tasks on the back burner and try to relax and enjoy this special time.
